The two required papers on the JPSC Prelims syllabus are objective-type (MCQ) and two hours each. Each paper is worth 200 marks for a total of 400 marks.

Paper 2 of General Studies
This paper follows the same pattern as Paper 1 and is likewise based on general knowledge. The questions will evaluate candidates’ analytical and reasoning skills, decision-making abilities, and problem-solving abilities.
- The JPSC Prelims Exam does not have negative marking.
- The sum of the scores from the two papers determines the cut-off.
Pattern for the JPSC Mains Exam
Candidates who have successfully cleared the Prelims stage will be eligible for JPSC Mains. The number of candidates selected for Mains will be equal to 10 times the total number of vacancies.
JPSC syllabus 2025 for Mains
There are no optional papers in the JPSC Mains Syllabus. Also, marks of Paper-I will not be counted in the final merit list.

This is just a qualifying paper. Out of 100 marks, every candidate will have to secure only 30 marks. Hence, the commission has made sure that candidates having an educational background in a regional language will not be adversely impacted by the English section in the paper.
As per the JPSC 2025 exam pattern, Mains Paper 1 will have 2 sections:
